What kind of show is this (sketch, standup, improv, variety, storytelling, etc): It’s an all female variety cabaret night.
Describe your show in 2-3 sentences: It’s a seriously fun night co-hosted by Jess Beaulieu and Laura Bailey. We feature the most hilarious ladies in the city. Since Chicka Boom is a variety show, you get a little bit of everything. Sketch, stand-up, improv, theatre, musical numbers, singer/songwriters, dancers, poets, and everyone is hysterical.
What are the origins of this show? How did you start and what inspired you to create it? We really wanted to create an all female show because we love the positive atmosphere and supportive energy that an all ladies event creates. But we also knew that we wanted it to be a variety night and to combine all performance art forms. We didn’t just want stand-up, or improv, or sketch. We wanted to mix it up and to include singers, dancers, poets, actors, and any other talented women we could get our hands on. Audiences love variety! We wanted to create a show that WE would want to watch every month and I think we’ve done just that.
What is the vibe of your room? Describe your current or ideal audience. You’d think in an all female show that it would be an all female audience, but it’s not the case! We have men and women present, mostly a younger crowd, but there are all ages represented. People from all walks of life are there and everyone enjoys the show. It’s a really fun, positive energy in the space.
